Not Interested, No Thanks!

We humans love focusing on what we don’t want, on what we don’t prefer. Today’s show is dedicated to everyone who regularly focuses on what they don’t want as they declare that the world is going to hell in a hand basket. Because whether you believe that it is or that it isn’t, you are right either way!

We start by talking about the fact that it’s Independence Day here in the U.S. today, and President Donald Trump wants to put tanks in today’s official Independence Day parade. This has produced a great deal of angst on one side of the divide and fervor on the other side. But neither side seems to realize that they’re both supporting the same thing with their attention.

My own view is that I really don’t care to watch the parade.

We get to decide at all times what we’re going to focus on. When we focus so much on what we don’t want, we get more of what we don’t want.

And then we fume about it happening that way!

So if you truly want to celebrate Independence Day, celebrate your independence from having to focus on what you don’t prefer, because that choice always lies with you.

The Search, by Neville Goddard

This week we tackle one of the shortest books Neville Goddard ever wrote. It’s the story of three waking dreams Neville had that summarize his own experience living his own teachings.

The title reflects the human experience of asking and attempting to answer ultimate questions, and the book summarizes his own answers to those questions.

This is a book that must be read after studying Neville’s other teachings. Without those teachings as context, he comes off in this book as an egomaniac with delusions of Godhood.

But in the context of what Cindie and I call the Neville decoder ring, the metaphors and symbology that Neville uses in his teaching, this book transforms into something that is both beautiful and masterful.

There is really no better example from any of Neville’s works than this one, in that it is an example of how the only way to truly understand Neville is to understand that he teaches using metaphor, simile, symbolism, allegory, and other literary devices. Treating his writings literally will only lead you astray.
